Who it’s for

Who this programme is for.

For anyone aged 16 and over who wants to understand what AI can and cannot do, and to use it well, in study, in work and in business.

  • University and college students
  • Professionals
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Job seekers
  • Adults who want practical AI skills

What learners will learn

The skills this area covers.

Six core skills for working with AI thoughtfully and effectively.

  • AI literacy

Understanding what AI is and how it works, in practical terms.

  • Responsible AI use

Using AI with care for accuracy, privacy and honesty.

  • Practical AI tools

Getting useful work done with today’s AI tools.

  • Prompting

Writing clear instructions to get better results.

  • Research and productivity workflows

Using AI to support research, writing and everyday work.

  • Capabilities and limitations

Knowing what AI does well, and where it falls short.

Programme structure

Six weeks, from understanding AI to using it well.

Each week builds on the last, ending with a practical project that brings the skills together.

  1. Week 1

    AI Literacy

Understand AI, generative AI and modern AI assistants in practical terms: how these systems work at an accessible level, and what they can and cannot do.

  2. Week 2

    Prompting

Learn to give AI clear instructions using context, objectives, constraints and the output format you want. Practise improving weak prompts and refining responses.

  3. Week 3

    Practical AI Tools

Hands-on exploration of useful AI tools for everyday work, learning, brainstorming, documents, content and productivity. The programme is not tied to any one AI vendor.

  4. Week 4

    Research & Productivity

Use AI to support research, summarising, planning, writing, studying and organising information, and learn to verify what it produces instead of trusting it blindly.

  5. Week 5

    Responsible AI, Capabilities & Limitations

Responsible use, privacy, accuracy, hallucinations, bias, fact-checking, academic integrity and appropriate disclosure, and knowing when AI should not be relied upon.

  6. Week 6

    Build Your AI Workflow

Bring the skills together in a practical final project: choose and use AI appropriately to solve a real task or improve a workflow. The final project also supports the certificate requirement.

What learners build and do

Learning that ends in something made.

Learning is practical and reflective. Examples of what learners may do:

  • Practise writing clear prompts
  • Compare AI output with reliable sources
  • Use AI to support a research or work task
  • Reflect on responsible use

Learning approach

How learning works here.

  • Hands-onLearners spend their time making and testing, not only watching.
  • GuidedClear steps and support help learners keep moving forward.
  • Project-basedSkills come together in finished pieces of work.
  1. Learn

Clear, guided introductions to each new idea.

  2. Practice

Hands-on exercises that put the idea to work.

  3. Build

Small projects that bring the skills together.

  4. Receive feedback

Guidance on what works and how to improve it.

  5. Complete a project

A finished piece of work to show for the effort.
